The provision of consumer health information : a case study at Falun hospital Sweden / prepared by: Rebecca Davies

• The overall objective of the research was to understand rheumatic out-patients' information needs and determine whether their needs are being addressed and if not what improvements should be made. 25 interviews were conducted with libraries, patients and information suppliers. The research has identified that there is a need for a consumer health information service at Falun hospital. Public libraries in the county receive requests for patient information, in some cases daily, but lack of resources means that they cannot always respond to these queries satisfactorily. Interviews with G.P.'s indicated that patients are rarely provided with written information at primary health care level.
