• Main description: Diese Einführung in die Lexikologie der deutschen Sprache der Gegenwart behandelt alle wesentlichen Fragen dieser sprachwissenschaftlichen Disziplin: das Wesen des Wortes als einer sprachlichen Grundeinheit, Probleme der Wortdefinition, Wortbildung und Wortbedeutung, Aufbau des Lexikons und lexisch-semantische Beziehungen im Text und im System, die soziale Schichtung des Wortschatzes und Ursachen seiner Veränderungen, des Bedeutungswandels, der Entstehung von Neologismen, der Übernahme fremden Wortgutes und der Archaisierung. Dabei werden Forschungsansätze verschiedener Schulen vorgestellt. 
• Main description: This introduction to the lexicology of present-day German deals with all the major aspects of this linguistic disciplin - the nature of the word as a linguistic unit, problems of word definition, word formation and word meaning, structure of the lexicon and lexico-semantic relations in texts and in the language system, the social stratification of vocabulary and reasons for changes within it, the emergence of neologisms, the adoption of foreign words and the phenomenon of obsolescence. Research approaches applied by different schools of linguistic thought are described in the process.
