• This book is about the history of the music world in Djibouti as well as about its most famous singers; how most of the well-known singers from Djibouti, consisting of both men and women, entered the world of music and theater and how they have contributed to the Djiboutian music world. Names include: Siciid Xamarqoodh, Cali Mooge Geeddi, Rooda Axmed and Faadumo Axmed Dhimbiil. Before Radio Djibouti was officially launched, these singers used to perform at weddings and other parties. After the launch, these singers were given the opportunity to sing on radio and were located in different parts of the country. The television channels, which were founded by the French in 1967, were also an outlet for these singers. During the struggle for independence, both radio and television were used to communicate the anti-colonial message to the population. As a result, many singers were imprisoned and deported. After Djibouti became independent from the French in 1977, both radio and television were used to broadcast programmes related to music and culture. [ASC Leiden abstract]. 
• "Cet ouvrage d'histoire tente de tracer l'émergence et l'évolution de la chanson moderne djiboutienne d'expression somalie. Il brosse le portrait biographique et artistique des grands noms de cet art, aujourd'hui tous disparus. Depuis Ibrahim Djama ("Garabyare"), le pionner de la chanson moderne somalie, avec Abdi Sinimo, aux débuts des années 1940, jusqu'à Aden Elmi God ("Qooryare "), l'auteur de l'hymne national, en passant par Ibrahim Souleiman Gadhle, les frères Said et Abdo Hamargod, Mohamed Ali "Fourchettes", et tant d'autres. L'auteur fait défiler plus de trente grandes figures de la chanson et du théâtre somalis, tous de nationalité djiboutienne, qu'ils soient poètes-compositeurs, dramaturges ou chanteurs. Parmi tous ces artistes, on note quatre femmes qui ont eu chacune une histoire marquante avec la chanson et le théâtre. Il y a tout d'abord Hawa Geelqaad, la première femme à jouer dans une pièce de théâtre devant un public, une gageure à son époque, puis Roda Ahmed, rentrée dans l'histoire, semble-t-il, pour avoir remplacer au pied levé l'étoile de la chanson somalie de l'époque, Nimo Djama, dans une représentation théâtrale restée célèbre. Il y a également Nadifo Haji et Fatouma Ahmed Dembil reconnues pour leurs "codkooda tolmoon", leurs voix sublimes".
